Bedouin box

Cardboard, wool tent fabric
2013

Bedouin Emirati tent fabrics cover transportable items; a folding chair, a folding ladder and a folding box. The fabric takes the form of the object yet is not the object. This work questions the evolution of Emirati lifestyle, its adoption of imported objects in everyday life, and the abandonment of tents, whose bio-systems have potential for development into modern-day hygroscopic system. For example, when rain falls on a tent, the wool expands to block water entry. When the weather is sunny, the wool shrinks to allow air to pass through.
