Liminal Space

Desert sand, air, water, glass
2021
Commissioned by Chanel High Jewellery

Liminal Space is a sculpture that fuses collected sand from the desert in between two glass panels in an attempt to create a relationship between sand in its natural raw form and heavily processed form used in construction. The sculpture has a brittle and transparent existence in spite of its solidity. The fusion of both forms explores the paradox of temporal transience; a space left behind into another that has not been reached yet; a threshold of constant fluidity.

The artist has formulated Liminal Space with the intention to allow for the sand to escape the sculpture with time.
